Having heard great things about the Cafe at Woodfield Garden Centre in Birr, I was delighted to get an opportunity to visit for lunch earlier this week. Woodfield is located on the Tullamore Road out of Birr, on the right hand side just after passing ALDI.
The cafe is small and it was packed on a Tuesday so I can only imagine how busy it gets at weekends but if you are lucky enough to visit on a sunny day, there are plenty of seats outside also.
The cafe serves breakfast, lunch, drinks and cakes with the breakfast options available all day. The cafe is known for its use of seasonal, local and organic produce making it an excellent choice for a healthy breakfast or lunch. Of course, there is always the option for a sweet treat from their selection of cakes for afterwards!
I had poached eggs with bacon and avocado (on sourdough toast) which was served with homemade relish. It was excellent; the eggs were perfectly cooked and the bacon was was just at that perfect stage of crispiness. My friend had a chicken and tomato sandwich which was served with homemade mayonnaise, also on sourdough, with an accompanying side salad. Coffees and teas were also very good.
The setting is lovely, the food is very good and very fresh but it is not cheap. But you get what you pay for so it was well worth it in my opinion.
